The chase for gold has begun, as the 15U & 17U Canada Basketball National Championships in Fredericton tipped off on August 5th, 2019. Only one team can take home the gold, and after day 1, each team has illustrated an identity that is expected to carry over the course of the week. British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan each came away with wins, completing their day 1-0 in the 15U bracket. Day 1 of the 15U tournament was capped off by an extraordinary comeback from Newfoundland who were down as much as 23 points but came back with a 68-62 victory over New Brunswick.

Further, on the 17U side, we saw Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan all come away with wins. A highlighted performance was by Quebec, who imposed dominance on the floor starting at the defensive need. From blocks on one end, to fast breaks, and ferocious finishes at the rim, the Quebec team had the entire gym jumping.

Day 2 begins at 9:00 a.m. Atlantic daylight time and it looks to be another eventful day in Fredericton, NB.
